    Description:

    Various forms of pieces of stems, leaves, flowers, immature fruits and parts thereof. Color from grayish or yellowish green to dark green, with greenish-yellow, yellow, greenish-brown, rarely - pinkish-violet and brown blotches. The smell is weak, peculiar. The taste of water extract is bitterish, slightly astringent.

    Pharmacodynamics:

    St. John's wort contains tannins, essential oil, triterpene saponins, vitamins C, E; flavonoids, anthraquinones,macro- and microelements and other biologically active substances.

    The infusion of St. John's wort has an astringent and anti-inflammatory effect.

    Indications:

    Inflammatory diseases of the mucous membrane of the mouth and throat (gingivitis, stomatitis, etc.); chronic colitis (as part of complex therapy).

    Contraindications:

    Hypersensitivity to the drug, pregnancy, lactation, children under 12 years.

    Dosing and Administration:

    About 10 g (1.5 tablespoons) of St. John's wort are placed in enameled pots, pour 200 ml (1 cup) of hot boiled water, cover with a lid, heat in a boiling water bath with periodic stirring for 15 minutes, cool at room temperature for 45 minutes, filter, the remaining raw material is squeezed. The volume of the infusion obtained is adjusted to 200 ml with boiled water.

    Take inside in a warm form for 1/2 cup 3 times a day for 30 minutes before meals. The course of treatment is 2-3 weeks.

    For rinses, apply 1/2 cup of warm infusion 3-4 times a day. The course of treatment is 5-10 days.

    Before use, the infusion is recommended to be shaken.

    Side effects:

    Allergic reactions are possible.With prolonged use, the drug can cause unpleasant sensations in the liver and a feeling of bitterness in the mouth, in some cases when taken orally - a photosensitizing effect (increased sensitivity of the skin to the action of sunlight).

    Interaction:

    With the combined use of St. John's wort with antiviral agents - reverse transcriptase inhibitors (amprenavir, indinavir, efavirenz, nevirapine, nelfinavir, ritonavir, saquinavir), steroid preparations, inhibitors of the activity of proteolytic enzymes, as well as preparations of cyclosporine and warfarin - it is possible to reduce the effectiveness of these drugs.

    Special instructions:

    During treatment, UV radiation should be avoided (including a solarium, UV lamp, prolonged exposure to the sun).
