A mixture of pieces of stems, leaves, flowers, buds, unripe fruits and their parts. Color from greyish-green to dark-green and greenish-brown with numerous white, yellowish-white, yellow, brown, pinkish-violet impregnations. The smell is weak, peculiar. The taste of water extract is bitterish, slightly astringent.

Pharmacodynamics:

The herb of St. John's wort contains tannins, essential oil, triterpene saponins, vitamins C, E, flavonoids, anthraquinones,macro- and microelements and other biologically active substances.

Infusion of herb St. John's wort has an astringent, anti-inflammatory effect.

Indications:

Inflammatory diseases of the mucous membrane of the mouth and throat (gingivitis, stomatitis, etc.); chronic colitis (as part of complex therapy).

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the drug. When ingestion - pregnancy, lactation, children under 12 years.

Dosing and Administration:

2 filter bags (3 g) are placed in a glass or enamel ware, pour 100 ml (1/2 cup) of boiling water, cover with a lid and insist for 15 minutes, periodically pressing on the bags with a spoon, then squeeze them. The volume of the infusion obtained is adjusted to 100 ml with boiled water.

Take inside 1/2 cup 3 times a day for 30 minutes before meals. The course of treatment - 2 - 3 weeks. For rinses apply in a warm form for 1/2 cup 3-4 times a day. The course of treatment is 5-10 days.

Before use, the infusion is recommended to be shaken.

Side effects:

Allergic reactions are possible. With prolonged use, it can cause unpleasant sensations in the liver and a feeling of bitterness in the mouth, in some cases with ingestion - a photosensitizing effect (increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight).

Interaction:

With the combined use of St. John's Wort preparations with cyclosporine, warfarin, steroid preparations, antiviral agents - reverse transcriptase inhibitors (amprenavir, indinavir, efavirenz, nevirapine, nelfinavir, ritonavir, saquinavir); inhibitors of the activity of proteolytic enzymes may reduce their effectiveness.
