АТХ:R.01.A.A.07 Xylometazoline
Pharmacodynamics:The imidazoline derivative, α-adrenomimetic, narrows the venous vessels of the nasal mucosa: puffiness, exudation, hyperemia decreases. Relieves nasal breathing in rhinitis. Act comes in a few minutes after application and lasts for several hours.
Pharmacokinetics:The drug for topical application, systemic action on the body does not.
Indications:It is used for the treatment of acute allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, and hay fever. Used to reduce the edema of the nasopharyngeal mucosa with an average otitis and to prepare the patient for diagnostic procedures in the nasal passages.

Contraindications:Glaucoma, chronic and atrophic rhinitis, severe cardiovascular insufficiency, individual intolerance, children under 2 years old.
Carefully:Angina pectoris, diabetes mellitus, prostatic hyperplasia, hypersensitivity.
Pregnancy and lactation:Recommendations for FDA - Category C. It is used with caution during pregnancy and lactation in cases where the intended benefit exceeds the risk to the fetus and newborn.
Dosing and Administration:Use in children
From the age of two: a spray of 0.05% for 1 injection into each nostril 1-2 times a day.
From the age of six: 0.05% solution or gel is injected 1 drop into each nasal passage 3 times a day.
Adults
0.1% solution or gel is injected 1 drop into each nasal passage 3 times a day.
The duration of treatment is not more than 5-7 days.
The highest daily dose: 3 injections into each nostril.
Side effects:Local manifestations: edematous nasal passages, burning and hyperemia of the conjunctiva, transient visual disturbances.
Systemic manifestations: lethargy, increased blood pressure, dizziness.
Allergic reactions.
Overdose:Most often manifested in children (with occasional ingestion) in the form of systemic disorders: hypothermia, bradycardia, hyperhidrosis, impaired consciousness (inhibition, sopor, coma).
Anticholinergic symptoms: instability, flush to the face, shortness of breath, hypotension, oppression (loss of consciousness) or hyperstimulation (convulsions, hallucinations) of the central nervous system.
Treatment: withdrawal of the drug, symptomatic therapy.
Interaction:It is not recommended to take the drug simultaneously with monoamine oxidase inhibitors - the risk of developing hypertension is increased.
Special instructions:It is not recommended for taking more than five days in a row.
The effectiveness of the drug decreases with acute colds.
