Pharmacodynamics:

Xylometazoline belongs to the group of local vasoconstrictors (decongestants) with α-adrenomimeticheskim action, vvyvaeg contracted blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, eliminating, swelling and hyperemia of the nasal mucosa and nasopharynx. Relieves nasal breathing in rhinitis.

Otrivin® is well tolerated by patients with sensitive mucous membranes, its effect does not prevent the separation of mucus. Otrivin® has a balanced pH, characteristic of the nasal cavity. The composition of the drug includes inactive components - sorbitol and hypromellose - 4 thousand (methylhydroxypropylcellulose), which are humectants. Thus, the moisturizing formula can reduce the symptoms of irritation and dryness of the nasal mucosa arising with prolonged use of xylometazoline.

In therapeutic concentrations, the drug does not irritate the mucous membrane, does not cause hyperemia. The action comes in a few minutes and lasts for 12 hours.

Pharmacokinetics:

With topical application is practically not absorbed, plasma concentrations are so small that they can not be determined by modern analytical methods.

Indications:

Acute respiratory diseases with phenomena of rhinitis (rhinitis), acute allergic rhinitis, pollinosis, sinusitis, eustachitis, otitis (to reduce edema of the nasopharyngeal mucosa). Preparation of the patient for diagnostic manipulation in the nasal passages.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the drug components, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, severe atherosclerosis, glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, hyperthyroidism, surgical interventions on the meninges (in the anamnesis). Children age - up to 6 years.

Carefully:FROMdiabetes mellitus, diseases of the cardiovascular system, prostatic hyperplasia, with hypersensitivity to the action of adrenergic drugs, accompanied by insomnia, dizziness, arrhythmia, tremor, increased blood pressure.

Pregnancy and lactation:In pregnancy and during lactation apply only if the intended benefit to the mother exceeds the risk to the fetus and the baby.

Dosing and Administration:Intranasally. Adults and children over 6 years: 2-3 drops in each nasal passage 3-4 times a day, not more than 3-4 days without consulting a doctor. It is not recommended to use the drug for more than 10 days.

Side effects:

With frequent and / or prolonged use - irritation and / or dryness, burning, paresthesia (tingling) of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity; sneezing, hypersecretion, nausea Rarely - edema of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity, palpitations, increased blood pressure, headache, vomiting, insomnia; tachycardia, arrhythmia, blurred vision, systemic allergic reactions; Depression (with prolonged use in high doses).

Overdose:

Symptoms: increased side effects, in particular, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, sometimes confusion may occur.

Treatment is symptomatic.

Interaction:

Incompatible with monoamine oxidase inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.

Special instructions:

It is not recommended to apply continuously for more than 10 days. Do not exceed recommended doses, especially in children and the elderly. Do not use for a long time, for example, with chronic rhinitis.

Xylometazoline does not affect the ability to drive a vehicle and mechanisms that require an increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.
