Otrivin - instructions for use, dose, side effects, contraindications

Pharmacodynamics:

Xylometazoline belongs to the group of local vasoconstrictors (decongestants) with a- adrenomimeticheskim action, causes the narrowing of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, eliminating edema and hyperemia of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx. Relieves nasal breathing in rhinitis.

Otrivin® is well tolerated by patients with sensitive mucous membranes, its effect does not prevent the separation of mucus. Otrivin® has a balanced pH value, characteristic of the nasal cavity. The composition of the drug includes inactive components - sorbitol and hypromellose (methylhydroxypropylcellulose), which are humectants. Thus, the moisturizing formula can reduce the symptoms of irritation and dryness of the nasal mucosa arising with prolonged use of xylometazoline.

In therapeutic concentrations, the drug does not irritate the mucous membrane, it does not cause hyperemia.The action comes in a few minutes and lasts for 12 hours.

Pharmacokinetics:With topical application is practically not absorbed, plasma concentrations are so small that they can not be determined by modern analytical methods.

Indications:

Acute respiratory diseases with phenomena of rhinitis (rhinitis), acute allergic rhinitis, pollinosis, sinusitis, eustachiitis, otitis media (to reduce edema of the nasopharyngeal mucosa). Preparation of the patient for diagnostic manipulation in the nasal passages.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the drug components, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, severe atherosclerosis, glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, hyperthyroidism, surgical interventions on the meninges (in the anamnesis).

Carefully:Diabetes mellitus, diseases of the cardiovascular system; with hypersensitivity to adrenergic drugs, accompanied by symptoms of insomnia, dizziness, cardiac arrhythmia, tremors, high blood pressure.

Pregnancy and lactation:

During pregnancy and lactation, the drug should only be used after a thorough assessment of the risk-benefit relationship for the mother and fetus,Do not exceed the recommended dosage.

Dosing and Administration:

Intranasally.

Breast children and children under the age of 6: 1-2 drops in each nasal passage 1-2 times a day. Do not use more than 3 times a day.

Children older than 6 years: 2-3 drops in each nasal passage 3-4 times a day.

Side effects:

With frequent and / or prolonged use - irritation and / or dryness of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx, burning, tingling, sneezing, pshersecretion, nausea.

Rarely - edema of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity, palpitations, increased blood pressure, headache, vomiting, insomnia; tachycardia, arrhythmia, blurred vision, systemic allergic reactions; depression (with prolonged use in high doses).

Overdose:

Symptoms: increased side effects, in particular - increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, sometimes confusion may occur. Treatment is symptomatic.

Interaction:

Incompatible with monoamine oxidase inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.

Special instructions:

It is not recommended to apply continuously for more than 10 days. Do not exceed recommended doses, especially in children and the elderly.

When using the drug in children under 1 year should consult with a doctor. Children under 6 years should use the drug under the supervision of adults.

Effect on the ability to drive transp. cf. and fur:Xylomegasoline does not affect the ability to drive a vehicle or mechanisms.

Form release / dosage:

Nasal drops [for children] 0.05%.

Packaging:For 10 ml of the drug in a bottle of high-density polyethylene with a lid with a dropper, equipped with a control system for the first autopsy. The bottle together with the instruction for use is placed in a cardboard box.
