Pharmacodynamics:

Xylometazoline belongs to the group of local vasoconstrictors (decongestants) with alpha-adrenomimetic activity, causes narrowing of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, thus eliminating the edema and hyperemia of the nasal mucosa, restoring the nasal passages, facilitating nasal breathing.

The effect of the drug comes in a few minutes after its application and lasts up to 10 hours.

Pharmacokinetics:With topical application, the preparation is practically not absorbed, therefore its concentrations in the blood plasma are very small (they are not determined by modern analytical methods).

Indications:

Acute respiratory diseases with phenomena of rhinitis (rhinitis); acute allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, hay fever; otitis media (as part of combination therapy to reduce edema of the nasopharyngeal mucosa); Preparation of the patient for diagnostic manipulation (rhinoscopy).

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to xylometazoline, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, severe atherosclerosis, glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, thyrotoxicosis, surgical interventions on the meninges (in the anamnesis), children under 2 years for the application of 0.05% solution and up to 6 years - for 0.1% solution.

Do not use with monoamine ksidase (MAO) inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.

Carefully:

Ischemic heart disease (angina pectoris III-IV functional class), prostatic hyperplasia, diabetes mellitus, pregnancy, lactation.

Dosing and Administration:

Intranasally.

Adults and children over 6 years of age 1 injection 0.1 % solution xylometazoline in each nasal passage 2-3 times a day.

Children aged 2 to 6 years apply 0.05% xylometazoline solution for 1 injection in each nasal passage 1-2 times a day.

Do not use the drug more than 3 times a day. Do not apply the drug without interruption for more than 3-5 days.

Side effects:

With frequent and / or prolonged use - irritation and / or dryness of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx, burning, paresthesia, sneezing, hypersecretion; rarely - swelling of the nasal mucosa, palpitations,tachycardia, arrhythmia, increased blood pressure, vomiting, headache, insomnia, visual impairment, depression (with prolonged use of high doses).

Overdose:Symptoms: increased side effects.

Interaction:

Incompatible with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.

Special instructions:

Before application, it is necessary to clean the nasal passages.

Do not use for a long time, for example, with chronic rhinitis.

Effect on the ability to drive transp. cf. and fur:

In therapeutic doses does not affect the ability to drive a car and to control machinery.

In dosages exceeding the recommended levels, it may affect the ability to drive a vehicle or equipment. Do not exceed the recommended dose and increase the duration of treatment.
