Description:

Transparent, colorless, mobile liquid with a characteristic alcohol smell.

Pharmacodynamics:

Antimicrobial, with local application has an antiseptic effect (denaturing proteins of microorganisms). It is active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and viruses. Antiseptic activity increases with increasing ethanol concentration. For disinfecting the skin, a 70% solution is used that penetrates the deep layers of the epidermis better than 95%, which has a tanning effect on the skin and mucous membranes.

Pharmacokinetics:

When used externally, it is absorbed from the surface of the skin and mucous membranes into the systemic circulation. In the metabolism of the drug involved isoenzyme CYP2E1, the inductor of which it is.

Indications:

Applied as an antiseptic and disinfectant (treatment of medical instruments, hands of the surgeon and the operating field) and local irritant.

They are also used for making medicinal forms in pharmacies.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity.

Dosing and Administration:

Outer, in the form of lotions. To process the surgical field and pre-surgical disinfection of the hands of the surgeon, 70% solution is used, it is recommended to use a 40% solution for compresses and wipes (to avoid burns).

As an irritant - in the form of wipes and compresses.

Side effects:

Allergic reactions, skin burns, redness and soreness of the skin in the place of compress.

When used externally, it is partially absorbed through the skin and mucous membranes and may have a resorptive general toxicity (central nervous system depression).

Special instructions:

In external application, ethanol is partially absorbed through the skin and mucous membranes, which must be taken into account when used in children, pregnant women and lactation.
