Antimicrobial, with local application has an antiseptic effect (denaturing proteins of microorganisms). It is active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and viruses. Antiseptic activity increases with increasing ethanol concentration.

For disinfecting the skin, 70% solution is used, penetrating deeper layers of the epidermis better than 90%, which has a tanning effect on the skin and mucous membranes.

Pharmacokinetics:When used externally, it is absorbed from the surface of the skin and mucous membranes into the systemic circulation. In the metabolism of the drug, the isoenzyme CYP2E1 participates, the inductor of which it is.

Indications:Treatment of the initial stages of diseases: furuncle, panaritium, mastitis; treatment of the hands of the surgeon (the methods of Fürbringer, Alfred), the operation field (including those with sensitivity to other antiseptics, in children and operations on areas with thin skin in adults - neck, face).

Contraindications:Hypersensitivity.

Pregnancy and lactation:Data on the safety and efficacy of the drug during pregnancy and lactation are not known. The use of the drug is possible during this period only in those cases when the prospective benefit for the mother exceeds the potential risk to the child or fetus.

Dosing and Administration:

Outer, in the form of lotions. To process the surgical field and pre-surgical disinfection of the hands of the surgeon, 70% solution is used, it is recommended to use a 40% solution for compresses and wipes (to avoid burns).

90% solution should be diluted to the required concentration and used according to the indications.

Side effects:

Allergic reactions, skin burns, hyperemia and soreness of the skin at the site of compression.

When used externally, it is partially absorbed through the skin and mucous membranes and may have a resorptive general toxicity (central nervous system depression).

Overdose:The narcotic substance, causing characteristic alcoholic excitation, in large doses depresses the functions of the central nervous system.
