    Composition:

    Pharmacodynamics:

    Acyclovir is active against Herpes simplex 1 and 2 types, virus Varicella zoster, the Epstein-Barr virus and cytomegaloviruses. Thymidine kinase virus-infected cells through a series of consecutive reactions actively converts acyclovir in mono-, di- and triphosphate of acyclovir. The latter interacts with the viral DNA polymerase and is embedded in DNA, which is synthesized for new viruses. Thus, "defective" viral DNA is formed, which leads to suppression of replication of new generations of viruses.

    Pharmacokinetics:

    When applying the ointment on intact skin, the absorption is minimal, it is not determined in the blood and urine. When the skin is affected, the absorption is moderate, patients with normal renal function, the serum concentration in the serum is up to 0.28 μg / ml, in patients with chronic renal insufficiency up to 0.78 μg / ml.

    Indications:

    Infections of the skin and mucous membranes caused by the virus Herpes simplex types 1 and 2, including herpes lips, genital herpes (primary and recurrent); localized shingles (ancillary treatment).

    Contraindications:

    Hypersensitivity to acyclovir and other components of the drug.

    Pregnancy and lactation:

    Adequate and strictly controlled clinical studies of the safety of the drug during pregnancy and lactation were not conducted. The application is shown only when the intended benefit to the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus or the baby.

    Dosing and Administration:

    The drug is recommended to apply 5 times a day (approximately every 4 hours) a thin layer on the affected and adjacent areas of the skin and mucous membranes.

    Duration of treatment is not less than 5 days. In the absence of healing, treatment can be continued up to 10 days. If the symptoms persist for more than 10 days, you should consult your doctor.

    Side effects:

    Possible short-term redness, itching, flaking, burning or tingling in the areas of application, vulvitis. In very rare cases, the development of allergic dermatitis, more often associated with the reaction to auxiliary substances.

    There are isolated reports of cases of edema of Quincke with topical application of acyclovir drugs.

    Overdose:

    Symptoms: headache, neurologic disorders, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, impaired renal function, lethargy, convulsions, coma.

    Treatment: maintenance of vital functions, hemodialysis.

    Interaction:

    With external application, no interaction with other drugs has been identified.

    Special instructions:

    To achieve maximum therapeutic effect, it is necessary to apply the drug already at the first signs of the disease (burning, itching, tingling, sensation of tension and redness).

    Ointment is not recommended to be applied to the mucous membranes of the oral cavity and especially the eye, since it is possible to develop a pronounced local inflammation.

    In the treatment of genital herpes should consult with a doctor. It is recommended to avoid sexual contact or use condoms, since the use of acyclovir does not prevent the transmission of the virus to partners.

    Patients with immunodeficiency states in the treatment of any infectious diseases should follow the recommendations of a doctor.

    Ointment is applied with a cotton swab, or with clean hands to avoid additional infection of affected areas. After applying the ointment is recommended to wash your hands.
