Pharmacodynamics:

The antiviral drug is a synthetic analogue of thymidine nucleoside. In infected cells containing viral thymidine kinase, phosphorylation takes place and conversion into an active compound - acyclovir triphosphate. High selectivity of action and low toxicity for humans are due to the lack of the necessary enzyme for its activation in intact cells of the macroorganism. Acyclovir triphosphate, "embedded" in the DNA synthesized by the virus, blocks the multiplication of the virus. Specificity and very high selectivity of action is also due to its predominant accumulation in cells infected with the herpes virus. Highly active against herpes simplex virus (Herpes simplex) I and II types; a virus that causes varicella and shingles (Varicella zoster); of the Epstein-Barr virus (virus types are listed in ascending order of the MPC of acyclovir). Moderately active against cytomegalovirus. With herpes prevents the formation of new elements of the rash, reduces the likelihood of cutaneous dissemination and visceral complications,accelerates the formation of crusts, reduces pain in the acute phase of herpes zoster. It has an immunostimulating effect.

Pharmacokinetics:

When applying the ointment on intact skin: the absorption is minimal; not detected in blood and urine. Affected skin: moderate absorption; in patients with normal renal function, the serum concentration in the serum is up to 0.28 μg / ml, in patients with CRF, up to 0.78 μg / ml. It is excreted by the kidneys (up to 9.4% of the daily dose).

Indications:

Herpes simplex skin and mucous membranes; genital herpes (primary and recurrent); shingles: chicken pox.

Dosing and Administration:

Outwardly. Ointment is applied to the affected skin 4-6 times a day (as soon as possible after the onset of infection). It is important to begin treatment of a recurring infection during the prodromal phase or at the very onset of infection. Duration of treatment - at least 5 days, a maximum of 10 days.

Side effects:

With external application - burning, inflammation (when getting on mucous membranes), peeling, hyperemia and dry skin.Allergic reactions are possible.

Special instructions:

Ointment should not be applied to the mucous membranes of the mouth and eyes.

To achieve maximum therapeutic effect, it is necessary to use the drug in the early stages of the disease - at the first rashes or precursors (burning, itching, tingling, sensation of tension and redness).

Acyclovir does not prevent sexual transmission of herpes, therefore during the period of treatment it is necessary to abstain from sexual intercourse.
